amount of RAM in Samsung S8000 Jet handset
One thing which disappointed many Jet users is the limited amount of RAM that Samsung employed in the infamous smarter-than-smartphone Jet. Simply browsing a web site with very heavy content via the bundled Dolphin web browser will stop your current session and pop up a message indicating memory resource is low and you no longer able to continue with your current work, which is = =”. And the same happens when you open few applications at the same time, say a music player, Google maps, and message editor. Samsung is smart for not advertising the amount of RAM for this “smartphone”. Many were guessing the amount of RAM in their Jet(in Facebook and Darkforest); from as low as 16MB to a whopping 256MB. Well, neither were correct, the amount of RAM can be determined in the administrator menu.
The administrator menu can be accessed by keying in *#5239870*#. After that, select option No. 4 Internals. It’ll prompt you for a Master Key. Key in *#7092463*#, and enter Confirm thereafter.
To check your memory status, select the no.2 option Debug settings > no.7 Memory state > no.1 Current memory state. You will see Total heap Mem, Total allocated mem, Allocated mem and Fragmentation level.
Here are some explanations:
- Total Heap Mem: Possibly the RAM size of Jet. It was amount at 122MB. You are seeing it as 119,900K as it was in Kilobytes, converting (multiply by 1024) it to MB will be equal to 122MB.
- Total Allocated Mem: I still couldn’t figure out the meaning of this. This memory is static and wouldn’t change with any applications opened and closed. Possibly the memory allocated for the Samsung proprietary OS.
- Allocated Mem: The amount of memory that you are using right now. Done some test by opening few widgets and applications and this amount will be slowly increasing. I’ve done a test by opening a large heavy flash content website in the Dolphin web browser and switch to Current Memory State via the task switcher. I can actually see the amount is increasing over time and finally it reaches 110K before giving me error on insufficient memory resources. Keep in mind that this figure doesn’t update in real time. You’ll have to click the back button and access that menu again to see the updated figure.
- Fragmentation level: No idea of this. Fragmentation means nothing for solid state memory. But anyway, this figure stay at 0% at all time.

Hi,
Followed your instructions easily and found my Allocated mem is 101913K out of Total heap of 120842k – presume this is why I can’t open any apps? My phone is giving me the ‘not enough memory message’ when I have nothing open!! How can I clear down the memory? Or discover what is running in the background that I am unaware of that is stopping this phone from functioning? I can’t access the web and can’t even access the simple calculator function at times. So much for a smart phone!

Well, decided to follow the first rule of advice when it comes to computers – turn it off and on again! Allocated mem dropped to 49357k and I can now access web etc!
Not impresed with the memory, but maybe I just need to remember to turn the thing off once a week….
Any more intelligent advice to offer to stop getting ‘insufficient memory’?

ya, this is the memory leak problem which plagued samsung’s own proprietary touchwiz OS phone. it even happens to the new Samsung Wave. the only solution you can do now was to turn off and turn on the phone.

Pray / contribute to the Jetdroid project
touchscreen is working now for Jetdroid.

There were no solution for this memory leak on Samsung OS touchwiz phones. Well, the only solution i can think of right now was… as i mentioned earlier, Jetdroid
