Unlocking cores is the new trend in the overclocking community. It gives consumer a power boost unlike any traditional overclock. It is a win-win solution for both the customer and the manufacturer. As the processor which is deemed unusable as a quad core will be binned and sell as dual core and triple core, depending on the usable core count.
